Home Projects on our 2025 List

Dec 19, 2024

Last year was a year of random DIYs, room makeovers and an amazing vacation to Alaska! In 2025 I am hoping to eat healthier (I know this is cliché, but I really need to overhaul my diet and my exercise routine, or lack thereof), tackle some room makeovers, landscape the front yard and do some fun DIYs around the house. I would also love to add some new virtual design clients to my list so I can help you re-imagine your space and make it feel more like YOU. So let’s dive in to what I (hopefully) have in store.

Kelton’s Teen Car Room

Our 16 year old is a car aficionado and he especially loves the Porsche GT3 RS. While he has loved his room as this mid-century modern haven, he really wants a space that reflects his personality and the things he loves. Last year we added the clouds to his ceiling with LED lights so that they light up and can look like lightning and all kinds of other fun features. But, he came to me a few months ago and said: Mom, since you made Micah’s room with things he loves, can you make me a car room? How could I say no when I preach that your space should always reflect you and everything that makes you uniquely you?

After much searching on the interwebs and Pinterest, I will tell you…car themed rooms are often done distastefully. Often (<– read: almost always). If you want to read the full post on how to tastefully do a themed room, read here and tips on designing a tween/teen room here. Here is the mood board I have put together in Canva for inspiration. The bed is from Article and was on sale, so I it is sitting in 5 boxes in our garage. Our youth minister had some leftover street signs in a storage closet so he gave us several to hang on the wall. They are perfect for this space! Still figuring out which wall those will go on. I am also on the hunt for a vintage metal desk on FBMP since those remind me of the desks I often see in car shops. I really want to find red metal lockers to put on either side of the windows where the shelves are currently hanging, but they are pricey on FBMP and I cannot seem to find the right ones. Still hunting! His one request was to have a beanbag chair for his corner so he could sink into it. Check.

Landscaping our front yard

This is a project that seems to hit our list every year but has yet to be done. Landscaping is pricey. Like, real pricey. We paid landscapers to completely overhaul our front yard in 2022 and, let’s just say I am salty with how that turned out. Did they do it to plan? Yes. Did it look good? Also yes. Did the plants die within 3 months and the landscapers wouldn’t replace any of the plants? Also yes. So that is where we are.

Here is where I found the miracle that is Yardzen. (this is not an ad, btw but an honest review!!) I saw Yardzen from a friend on IG and was intrigued. Their tag is: Yardzen’s delightful, all-online process is the easiest path to a yard you love. Sold! You take a quiz about your needs and desires for your yard or outdoor living space and they do the rest. It is a super easy process and the customer service is top-notch. You can get any of their packages for 20% off with code TRACY20. Here is the rendering they sent over.

Organize and “makeover” the pantry

This year I halfway tackled this pantry by giving the doors a makeover. They look so much better and really transformed the breakfast nook. Next up, organize the food in here and make it more efficient with some drawers and better shelves—probably wood shelves.

New mailbox

Our mailbox is less than attractive. It is an eye sore. This was also on last year’s list of to-dos, but we just didn’t get to it. I would like to build one with wood and make it a bit modern and pretty. We will see if this pans out this year.

Entry

This was also on last year’s list, but I would love to revisit the entry especially since I added the “new” vintage chair to replace the boho one we had in the entry corner. It was a $20 FBMP find and I am in love with the more vintage look. I would love to add a wooden, more vintage entry table. And maybe throw some wallpaper on the walls too. I think it would really make an inviting look when you walk in the front door. Here is an entry table I am in love with but it is so pricey I am trying to find a way to DIY it. Yes, I know. But somehow I think I can make it happen. Stay tuned.

Fix the tile in the guest bath

Ok, so this one should have been done like 2 years ago. I made over the guest bath 2 years ago and shortly after our toilet had a hairline crack and leaked under the vinyl peel & stick tile floor and ruined it around the toilet. We just pulled them up and they are still just sitting there as an unfinished, crummy looking floor. I know, it’s awful. But it will take more than just replacing the tiles because there is cork flooring underneath and those got ruined by the leak as well so we peeled parts of that up. There is some crazy material underneath the cork and it’s just a mess. So yes, this should be at the top of the list. Maybe I should just get on it.

For now that is all I can think of for our list. I am sure there will be rooms and projects I will tackle that are not on this list, as that is how I work. Obvi. So you will just have to stay tuned and see what we have in store!! As always, all the project and shenanigans are always on my Instagram and in stories.

Until then…
