Home projects on our list for 2024

Jan 10, 2024

Last year we didn’t do many really big makeovers or projects. We did several smaller scale DIYs and some fun little ones sprinkled in. This year I am hoping to do a few bigger ones. Let’s see what made the list. (in no particular order)

Front entry

Our front entry is simple. It isn’t overstated or bold. I know some might consider the front door color bold, but blue-gray can also be considered a neutral in some circles. This year I would like to make the entry have a bit more of a statement. On this list includes: wallpapering, a new chandelier (I’d love to be able to see it better without having to look up), and a more substantial table. Not a whole lot, but enough to make an impact. The entry is the first impression of the home, and while our entry is open to the entire space I still feel it should have it’s own design while blending in with the rest of the space.

The pantry

Woah. This one will be a big project. Not because the space is big, but because it will be time consuming in a space that is used multiple times a day. I would love to pull out the shelves and make floating wood shelves, wallpaper the walls and makeover the shutter doors. Organization is always number one in a pantry and this one definitely needs that! We have so much stuff crammed in that could probably live somewhere else and other things in the kitchen cabinets that could live in here. I am creating a mood board for ideas and the most important part for the entire project will be measuring everything correctly to make sure I can make the most use of the space.

Building a mailbox

Our mailbox is in desperate need of replacement. It seems it was the cheapest one available when it was installed—not by us 😉 So, I am adding a first-time DIY for me to build a mailbox this year. We have an HOA so I will need to have all my plans buckled up and exact to submit for approval first, but I am gathering all of that now. Here are some ideas I have. I think a mailbox, especially one that you see on the curb like ours, is a great way to make statement before entering your home. Along with landscaping, I think the mailbox is kind of like the cherry on top.

Boys’ closets

Our boys’ closets are the exact same size and shape with the exact same design, just flip-flopped. There is absolutely zero efficiency or storage in either one. Thus, they both remain a disaster. ALL. THE. TIME. It drives me insane. This year I plan to tackle those as well. As for plans, I do not have any worked up yet, but I am hoping to build in some shelves, drawers and shoe storage. Stay tuned for that. Here is one of their closets now. I gave fair warning. 😂

Micah’s room makeover

Our youngest is 11 (almost 12) and his room could use a little more of a“grown up” feel to it. In the last year or so my husband and boys have learned to hunt. Micah has really taken to it. In turn, he has developed a love for the outdoors and the country. I always ask my kids what they want in their rooms as far as design and style go, as I feel it should reflect them and their interests. I am not a “theme room” girl, so if there is a theme of sorts I make it as curated and elevated as I can without it looking theme-y.

For this room we have decided on a Modern English Hunting lodge look. I’m thinking leathers, wood, board & batten, wallpaper, vintage art (that I’ve already been collecting from estate sales and antique stores). I am hoping to do this in March or April for the Spring One Room Challenge®. The last time I participated in the ORC was in November of 2021 for our guest bathroom. It was so fun! Here are some of my inspiration pics and I have a color scheme I am pretty set on. Definitely stay tuned for more on this full room makeover!

Landscape the front yard

2 years ago I paid a landscaping company A LOT of money to landscape the entire front yard. It looked great. For 3 months. Then 90% of them died. Yes, I contacted the landscaper and no he wouldn’t replace them and that is another story for another day, so here we are.

They put in rocks and we eventually want to do some concrete pads but for now I am not liking the gray rocks I picked out and want to go more beige/natural. So I will be replacing the rocks and in one bed I will be doing mulch with river rocks around the edge. Here is the one mockup I did so you can see. This is in our circle driveway between the driveway and sidewalk.

The rest of the list

There are other projects on my list that I may or may not be able to tackle this year, but nonetheless I’m setting the goal.
