Create a Guest Room that is like a 5-star hotel

Jan 9, 2023

Preparing for guests can be so enjoyable, especially knowing you can create a space that rivals a 5-star hotel. You may not have the budget to set up a perfect oasis, but you can tidy up, clear out the clutter and add a few inexpensive things to make it just like a hotel experience. Here are some tips you can do.

A comfortable sleeping situation

I understand not everyone can buy a posh mattress, but there are so many mattresses that are inexpensive including this one from Wayfair, that is under $400. There are some really nice air mattresses too, if you need that option. The number one thing to consider is having a comfy place for them to lay their head at night, even if it isn’t top of the line.

Great Bedding

It probably goes without saying, but nice bedding is goes along with a comfy mattress. In warmer months try to opt for cooler sheets and in cooler months opt for flannel for that extra cozy feeling. Bamboo sheets tend to be best for cooling while flannel are great for warmth and softness.

Not only are sheets important, but you know how you seem to always be drawn to those layered beds in the stores or hotels? They just look like you could sink right into them. Layering can add this feeling of plushness and comfort. Try to layer a flat sheet, warm blanket, then duvet or comforter. Then on top fold a blanket or extra comforter. Layer the sleeping pillows with some soft shams and decorative pillows. Having several throw blankets in a basket or drawers is always nice, especially during really cold months. I also like to have extra pillows on hand in case someone likes extras.

If you’re like me and live in a hot southern climate, consider a floor fan if your guests tend to get hot. I love having a floor fan even though all our bedrooms have ceiling fans. 😉

Extra storage

Having a spot to place their bags or luggage is always a plus. I have a luggage rack I got from amazon and it is great. It prevents your visitors from having to place their suitcase on the floor and having to get down or bend down to get things out. It’s just a really nice touch.

If you have the space, a dresser or set of drawers is a great way to have storage for those that prefer to put their clothes or things away during their stay. Or even if it is to put their personal items.

Declutter

I know it is sometimes so easy to use your guest room closet as a storage closet, but if your space allows, try to move items you aren’t using in other parts of the home into storage bags in the garage or attic. I like my guests to have ample room in the closet for their things, not mine. It makes them feel like the room is entirely made for them, and that is what I am after!

Seating

Also if the space allows, having an {preferably} upholstered chair or bench to sit for reading, taking off shoes, etc is always great for winding down, resting, or reading. If you have a chair for reading, adding task lighting is really important too. Just a simple floor lamp is nice.

The Extras

To really make your guests feel at home and welcome, put together a little basket of essentials and then maybe some of their favorite snacks and goodies. In my basket I added some favorites snacks, hand lotion, face wash, face moisturizer, a little travel medical kit, a package of bandaids, a magazine, and not pictured two bottles of water. You can also add slippers, a sleep mask, anything you can think of that would be a little above and beyond! I added a sleep machine/sound machine on the nightstand for white noise and a good night’s sleep.

The Bathroom

Don’t neglect the bathroom your guests will be using! I have soaps, hand lotion, Q-tips, their favorite toothpaste and if you would like to go the extra mile add a robe on a door hook. I love having yummy towels for them to use, so I have bought these Turkish towels for the guest bathroom. They are like drying off with a blanket! So soft and absorbent.

Just remember, if you don’t know exactly what to add to your guest room just think of the things you would like to have if you were visiting a friend or family member. Chances are, you have similar wants as your guests!

Sheets | Duvet | Luggage rack | Sound Machine 1 | Sound Machine 2 | Sleep Mask | Floor Fan
Turkish Towels | Face Cleanser | Face Moisturizer | Rope basket | Welly First Aid Kit
